Love for Enemies
Series: Summer Series 2016Matthew 5:43-44; 38-42; 45-48
How are we to treat others who mistreat us?
Mat. 5:38-39 - Resist retaliation!
- One who slaps you
- One who takes your coat
- One who makes you walk a mile
- One who asks of you
Mat. 5:40 - Don't fall in love with your rights!
Mat. 5:41 - Do what is expected, and then some!
Mat. 5:42 - Give, not irresponsible stewardship, but as they have need!
Mat. 5:43-44 - Love your enemies!
- What is love? To bless, to do good, to pray for them. Luke 6:27; Prov. 25:11
- The #1 key is prayer! It is difficult to hate those for whom we pray!
- Why? We are trying to be like God, like the Son of God!
Mat. 5:45-48 - How do we look like Jesus? We take the Sword of the Spirit and whittle away anything that doesn't look like Jesus!
Mat. 5:44 - One of the most difficult passages in the Bible!
